Back in April, I travelled to Sydney for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) for some trend-scouting and wardrobe-shopping. As you know, seasonal trends are as much about hair and makeup as they are about clothes, and the beauty trend that stood out miles above the rest was metallics, colour and pop lips. Think 1980′s blue eyeshadow mixed with 2000′s silver eyeliner – sound scary? Put your mind at ease with these looks to experiment with, depending on your comfort level.
BEGINNER
You’re used to wearing a dash of mascara and a light pink gloss, so ramp it up a notch with a super bright lip. Keep the rest of your look natural with a dewy base and a few extra coats of mascara. Wear with neutral tones like white, black, denim and camel, or wear a colourful outfit and match your lip to one of those shades.
INTERMEDIATE
You’ve been rocking the pop lip for yonks, so you’re confident enough to take the trend to the next level. Continue with your bright lip, but add another element with a subtle metallic eyeliner in a colour combo that looks more runway than crazy person – try poppy red and silver or hot pink and gold.
ADVANCED
You’re practically an expert when it comes to metallic and coloured makeup, but maybe you’re looking for a few extra ideas that are trending right now. For your lips, experiment with the two-tone – one lip pink and one lip in orange. Add to that (or your traditional pop lip) with a coloured smokey eye. At the moment I’m loving blended wintery tones like mulberry and teal!
